Lawrence Welk was born in Strasburg, North Dakota to immigrant parents who traveled from Selz, South Russia to North America in the late 1800's. Life on the homestead was difficult but Welk developed a strong work ethic and a passion for music that drove his entire life. Welk performed with bands throughout the country, but California is where "The Lawrence Welk Show" made him a household name.
