Henry David Thoreau
Premiering Monday, March 30 @ 9pm
Henry David Thoreau helped define modern environmentalism and nonviolent resistance, yet his life has been obscured by myth. The author of Walden and Civil Disobedience, he was brilliant but flawed, idealistic but opinionated. A writer, scientist and activist, his words resonate urgently with today’s challenges as humanity looks for ways to live in harmony with nature—and each other.
- Back-to-Back Episodes on Monday! – On episode one, Who Are We?, a young Thoreau pursues a career as an author. Disheartened, he retreats to a cabin in the woods to live simply, deliberately—and write. On episode 2, Being Alive, Thoreau lives at Walden Pond for two years, where he writes two books, travels to Maine, and gets arrested in an act of civil disobedience.
- Tuesday, March 31 – Several More Lives to Live
After Walden, Thoreau works as a surveyor, scientist, and abolitionist, and travels to Cape Cod and Maine as a lifelong illness catches up with him.
