Artistic Encounters: Meet The Artist

Artistic Encounters -Meet the Artist essentially takes the artist from behind the camera and welcomes them into the Blue Ridge PBS studio.  This provides our arts loving audience the opportunity to meet the featured artist while they introduce their works one on one. Specially curated pieces from their collection will be on display during the reception and for several weeks afterwards with many available to take home by making a donation to Blue Ridge PBS. Additionally, each artist will donate one piece to Blue Ridge PBS which will then be auctioned the night of the artist’s reception. Proceeds benefit the artist and Blue Ridge PBS so it may continue its mission of enriching people’s lives by providing educational, informational, and cultural programming that fills a unique role as a positive and lifelong resource for the communities we serve.

Paulina and her art

Paulina Swietliczko received her art education from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland and graduated with the Magister Sztuki Degree (MFA) in 2003, in the Painting Department in Jaroslaw Modzelewski studio.

In 2005, Paulina moved to California where she taught art courses at a community college. In 2006, she was an artist in residence at the Fresno Art Museum. While living in California, Swietliczko was a member of Fig Tree Gallery, a co-op until she moved with her family to Virginia. Currently, she lives in Roanoke where she paints in her studio, teaches private art classes and participates in art events.

Swietliczko is a perceptual painter inspired by everyday life and her favorite medium is oil. According to Swietliczko, ”Recently, I have been painting outside, finding places and scenes around my town and surroundings; sometimes I paint architecture and some other times a landscape, vegetable garden, objects in my house or my friends and family members. Whatever I paint, I try to find my own way of depicting the world. In my painting process, I like the feeling of wonder and being lost, finding some kind of order in the chaos. Painting for me is a constant search and an adventure, each time I paint, I discover something new.” As a painter, Swietliczko is interested in capturing her own experience of living a simple life and finding magic in the mundane.
