Reflections of Vietnam:
Journey of Generations

An extraordinary documentary made in Vietnam as a partnership of Virginia Military Institute and Blue Ridge Public Television.

AND WINNER OF A 2004 BRONZE TELLY AWARD FOR DOCUMENTARY PROGRAM

Direct American involvement in the Vietnam War began in 1955. The first combat troops arrived in 1965. The war continued until the cease-fire in January 1973.

More than 30 years after the end of the Vietnam War, Americans still struggle to come to terms with a conflict that cost more than 58,000 American lives, divided our nation, and ultimately caused our leaders to reevaluate their use of military force. For many of the more than two million American veterans of the war, the wounds of Vietnam will never heal. The financial cost to the United States was more than $150 billion dollars. The Vietnam War remains a divisive issue in American politics.

To a whole new generation of young Americans today, it seems like ancient history.

In this hour-long documentary, Blue Ridge Public Television's film crew travels to Vietnam with a new generation of American soldiers - cadets from Virginia Military Institute. They explore the legacy of our nation's longest war, through their unique perspective as 21st century 18 year-olds. America's Vietnam veterans recall the days of their youth, as warriors far away from home fighting in an unpopular and deadly war. The reflections of Vietnamese soldiers are included as well -- those who fought in a war that tore apart their homeland.

Congratulations to Jack K. Neal, President and General Manager of Blue Ridge Public Television, program editor Carol Jennings, and our partners at VMI.
